The horror genre is growing every day with newer and more obscure concepts every single time. While viewers love to consume the new stuff, one can’t help but stay loyal to the good old franchises which are still relevant, scary, and filled with some brilliant jump scares. One such franchise is Scream. The first Scream movie was released in 1996, and now after five successful movies, along with several merchandises, video games, and even a series, we’re about to witness Scream 6, and it’s going to be one hell of an experience.
Scream is an American horror slasher franchise that has been incredibly successful over the years, with around $750 million at the box office, and was originally created by Kevin Willamson. What Is The Plot of Scream 6?
The entire Scream franchise revolves around the awareness and smartness of the characters in the movie, who try and navigate through some horror tropes and cliches, to make it out alive in the end, and we are anticipating something similar for Scream VI as well. Scream is one of the very few horror movie franchises that manages to scare you and make you laugh at the same time. Although Scream VI will fall under the horror genre, we can expect some comedic relief from time to time which will give the viewers a breather of sorts from all the scary moments. Scream VI will serve as a sequel to the 2022 Scream movie, so it will pick up right where the last movie ended. While there aren’t too many plot details that have been given away just yet, we can gauge a few things about the upcoming horror movie.
The surviving characters from the previous movies are moving to the Big Apple, aka New York City to escape their horrific past and start fresh, but will they succeed in doing so? The happy days don’t last too long when suspicious murders start occurring around them and it is none other than a new Ghostface. The entire plot of Scream VI will revolve around figuring out whom the new Ghostface is while also trying to stay alive. This isn’t a small-town mystery anymore, we’re in New York, and it is about to be a lot more brutal this time around.
The Cast of Scream 6
Now, this is where things get a lot more exciting. The Scream franchise often boasts an ensemble cast, and we can expect something along the same lines for Scream 6 as well. Starting with the characters who will be reprising their roles from the previous movies are Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter. Ortega recently became a trending star after her titular role as Wednesday in Tim Burton’s Netflix original. It will be exciting for fans to see Ortega not wearing black in Scream 6. Melissa Barrera will also be reprising her role as Tara’s older sister, Sam Carpenter, along with Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding as the twins. These four characters will be making the move to New York City from the previous movie in 2022.
Any Scream movie is incomplete without Courtney Cox, who has appeared in every movie so far and will be reprising her role in Scream 6 as Gale Weathers. Hayden Panettiere will also be returning to the franchise as Kirby Reed.
While there will be several familiar faces, there are some new additions to Scream 6 as well, and those include Josh Segarra, Devyn Nekoda, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, and Tony Revolori amongst others. It is unclear as to what role each of them will play, and more importantly, who will be Ghostface, if you have any guesses, drop them in the comments!
When and Where Can You Watch Scream 6?
Each and every horror movie deserves the big scream treatment. While it is fun to draw your curtains and turn off the lights as you stream and rewatch your favorite horror movies on your laptop or tv, the real thrill is derived from watching them in the theatres. There’s a certain chill, darkness, and eeriness to it, which is why we are more than happy to tell you that Scream 6 will be available to watch in the theatre close to you. So make sure you grab your fellow horror fans and watch the movie when it releases. Speaking of which, Scream 6 isn’t too far away. Originally, the movie was supposed to release on the 31st of March, 2023, but you’re in luck because the release has been preponed to the 10th of March instead. Eventually, Scream 6 will be available to watch on streaming services, mainly Paramount+, however, there is no set date for that just yet.
Is There a Trailer for Scream 6?
Less than a week ago, Paramount Pictures released the official teaser for the upcoming installment of the popular scream franchise. This teaser for Scream VI sets the tone of the movie and gives the viewers an idea of what they can expect. The teaser doesn’t give away any plot details just yet, but we can tell that this movie might be a lot scarier and darker than the previous movies in this franchise. We catch a glimpse of the very talented cast and have a feeling that Scream VI might be one of the best installments so far. By the looks of it, there are sinister undertones and we are excited to see the full trailer which should be available somewhere around February! We’ll make sure we update this article with a link to the official trailer after Paramount Pictures releases it on their YouTube channel. You can also catch a glimpse of the teaser on the big screen, but for that, you will have to head to the theatre when Babylon releases, which we highly recommend.
The Scream franchise has been around for a while and every time has managed to scare us with some typical horror tropes. We hope that the franchise continues to grow after Scream VI too, and maybe this around some of the characters (at least those who survive) get a spin-off series or movie because that will most definitely be in demand! Do let us know in the comments which Scream movie has been your favorite so far.
