Michael Gregory Rowe was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 18, 1962. His parents, John and Peggy Rowe, were also teachers. He is the oldest of his parents’ three children; he has two younger brothers, Scott and Phil.
He received his schooling at Overlea High School. When he was there, he grew interested in theater and singing, and he excelled under choir director Freddie King. Later, he attributed his passion for performing to King. He earned the Eagle Scout title while still in high school in 1979, and as part of a community service assignment, he was required to read aloud to pupils at the Maryland School for the Blind. His interest in writing and storytelling was aroused as a result of the encounter.
